Join us for the 2024 Rando Radness Series!
The Snowbowl Rando Radness Series is a celebration of human powered winter travel. This community event is open to everyone looking for an excuse to get outside, be active and spend time with friends in the heart of winter. All levels and abilities welcome!
2024 Dates (Updated to reflect changes due to season starting one week late. Please note we are taking a week off before the season finale):

- Week #3 - February 1st (Cancelled due to lack of snow)
- Week #4 - February 8th
- (Updated 2/12)- February 15th Vertical Race Up Paradise to makeup for cancelled Feb 1st event!
- Week #5 - February 22nd (Season Finale - Pizza party, costumes, raffle)
Registration (2024 registration will open at 8AM on 12/5/23):
- $18 per race OR if you pre-register online for the whole series it will be just $75 - that's $15 a race!
- We have a youth category in for all participants under 18. Races will be $15 or $60 for whole series.
- Pre-register online for whole series and save the hassle of needing to check in each night. Please register online before coming up to Snowbowl. We are discouraging onsite registration to make racer check in smoother.
- Series registration must be done online and before the first race of the series.
Everyone Receives:
- Chip Timing from our friends at Competitive Timing.
- An hour'ish of fun racing/recreating on a marked course.
- Race Series Scoring for overall position in each category.
- Awards & SWAG to nightly category winners.
- Opportunity to join a free skills clinic before the first two races and an avalanche education clinic before the third race. Lean more HERE.
- First 115 to sign up for the whole series will receive a 2024 Edition Rando Radness Hat!
- A sense of camaraderie and community amidst a dark, cold (yet beautiful) Montana winter.
Nightly Schedule:
- 5:15 PM Skills Clinics begin just outside of Snowbowl Bar
- 5:30-6:20: Racer Check-in and chip pick up inside the Snowbowl Bar.
- 5:30-6:30: Course Recon and warming up
- 6:30: Race Start in Snowbowl Base Area just outside of Snowbowl Bar
- 7:30'ish: Race Finish
- 7:30-9:00: Hang out, connect, and celebrate with food and drink in the Snowbowl Bar.
Skills Clinics:
We will offer skiils clinics before the first two races this year. These clinics are free and open to all interested in improving their skills moving up and down hill on touring skis.

Race Format:
The Rando Radness will consist of a set loop course which participants will complete as many times as they can in an hour with four being the most number of laps. If the leaders lap you on the course once then you will only complete three laps. If they pass you twice, then you will complete just two laps. This way everyone finishes the event at a similar time. The race typically lasts between 50 minutes to 1 hour and 10 minutes to complete.
Each week the course will change, but is likely include a skin track with kick turns, a bootpack, and a fun descent down Sunrise bowl. Each race will always start and finish right in the Snowbowl base area.
We are always looking to keep the racing fun and fresh. With this in mind, week 3 will be a vertical race to the top of Paradise ski run and week 5 will be a partners race to finish off the season!

Mandatory Gear:
- New in 2024 - leashes or brakes for your skis or snowboard
- Headlamp! (It'll be dark on the uptrack and partially lit on the downhill section.)
- Skis OR Split Snowboard
- Skins
- Poles
- Boots
- Helmet (safety is cool!)
Categories: (Choose the category that best suits the weight of your equipment. We will score & have awards for winners in each of these categories)
- Lightweight: The lightweight gear/race category includes folks on lightweight and race specific touring gear. If your boots are under around 800-1000 grams or lighter and your skis are under 1000 grams consider being in the lightweight category.
- Heavy Metal: The heavy metal category includes folks on heavier touring gear. If your boots are under over 1000 grams and your skis are over 1000 grams consider being in the heavy metal category.
- Splitboard: Do you have a snowboard? Is it cut in half? Have some skins for it? Come on up!
- Youth: All participants under 18 can join the youth category.
Series Scoring:
As mentioned earlier we are excited to provide you accurate results and series scoring over the course of the 5 races.

- You can earn points in any of the five races.
- Your best 4 results will count towards your overall score.
- The Scoring: Below shows the points breakdown for 1st-25th positions for men and women. Each race is scored evenly in the series. Those who do not score in the Top 25 of each event will receive 1 point for participating. (25,24,23,22,21,20,19,18,17,16,15,14,13,12,11,10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1)
- This scoring system means you can win the series without winning an individual event. By racing well at all four races you have the best chance of having the highest overall score.
- Points will not carry over categories if you race different categories throughout the season
End of Season Party and Raffle:
- We are working on putting together a fun raffle and party w/ drinks and pizza for everyone and their family. This will happen as part of the awards ceremony on the last evening. Costumes highly encouraged!
Spectating:
The races are perfect for spectating. By design a lot of action happens in the transition zone at the base of Sunrise Bowl just outside of the Snowbowl Bar. Bring the family up, trade off the kids, drink a beer and heckle. Spectating is strongly encouraged and appreciated by the participants.
